Credit crunch loft insulation prices
(Date of issue: Friday, 19 March 2010)
Dalston and Longtown residents with solid wall properties are
being offered the chance to get low cost energy saving loft
insulation for only £49, saving a staggering £231 less than the
normal price.
Carlisle City Council and Book My Survey Ltd have joined forces
to find the best credit crunch prices for local householders.
During March and April, Longtown and Dalston residents, who own or
live in a privately rented home, that has solid walls, can get a
solid wall pack for only £49 (subject to a survey). This
includes:
- Loft insulation;
- Reflective radiator panels; and
- Low energy light bulbs.
Installing the loft insulation alone could save up to £100 a
year off fuel bills. Heat reflecting away from the walls - with the
help of reflective radiator panels - and reduced lighting costs, as
a result of the low energy bulbs, could increase savings up to £130
a year, every year.
Cllr Olwyn Luckley, Portfolio Holder for Health and Community
Development, said:
“We have worked with Bookmysurvey (BMS) for a
number of years now, and are consistently impressed with the
professional way that they provide energy efficiency and fuel
poverty services to residents of Carlisle. Thanks to our
partnership arrangement with BMS, we have reached our targets in
relation to the Home Energy Conservation Act, and have attracted a
considerable amount of external funding into the area. Many
thousands of residents are now living in warmer, healthier homes,
and we look forward to an ongoing productive partnership with BMS,
to continue to improve the lives of our residents.”
Around 45% of the homes in Carlisle City Council have cavity
walls and have been taking advantage of the huge discounts
available for cavity wall insulation with our partners Bookmysurvey
Ltd over the last three years. For those living in homes with solid
walls it’s been a slightly different story. Grants have
traditionally favoured cavity walls because it is quick and easy to
install insulation and doesn’t cost a fortune.
For homes with solid walls the answer is a lot more complicated.
Our new ICE project offers some simple solutions targeted
specifically at hard to treat homes. The cost of the package
normally would be £280 but with the help of our partners
Bookmysurvey Ltd, we’ve got the cost down to £49. However funds are
limited and will be allocated on a first come first served
basis.
