Public consultation on future plans
(Date of issue: Tuesday, 2 March 2010)
Carlisle residents will be asked to have their say on proposals
for a major development in the west of the city this week.
A public consultation event will be held at Morton Community
Centre on Thursday, 4 March, between 5pm - 8pm and Friday, 5 March,
between 9am – 5pm.
Open to residents, groups and other interested parties, the
two-day event will provide an opportunity to see proposed plans and
find out more about how the land at Morton, west of Wigton Road,
could be developed.
Part of the overall Morton Masterplan, the pre-application
consultation will include indicative proposals for:
- A new 8175 Sq.m foodstore;
- Creation of jobs for the local economy;
- 606 car parking spaces;
- A petrol filling station; and
- Provision for Restaurant and cafe, hot food takeaway and
crèche.
Montagu Evans, a planning consultancy, has arranged the two-day
event on behalf of Carlisle City Council. The City Council is the
owner of the land and views from the consultation will help draw
together an outline planning application, scheduled to be submitted
this spring.
Anyone unable to attend the exhibition events, but would still
like to comment or find out more about the proposals, should write
to: Montagu Evans LLP, 302 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5RU;
email MortonCarlisle@montagu-evans.co.uk or
visit montagu-evans.
The deadline for responses is Monday 22 March 2010.
As this is a pre-application consultation, comments made at this
stage will be considered, however they will not be formal
representations. There will be an opportunity to make
representations when the planning application is submitted.
