Big Tidy Up Campaign launch
(Date of issue: Friday 4 March 2011)
Stanwix Big Tidy Up will be launched on Monday (March 7, 2011)
with the results of a poster competition.
Carlisle’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Barry Earp, will be
presenting prizes to four lucky pupils from Stanwix School, who are
winners of the Stanwix Big Tidy Up poster competition. In the best
tradition of award ceremonies, the winners will be announced at the
launch event, 10am at Stanwix School.
More than 100 pupils entered the competition, aged from five to
11-years-old, creating eye catching designs which represent what
the Big Tidy Up is about.
The winners will receive a Waterstone’s Voucher, sponsored by
Burnetts Solicitors.
Starting on Monday, 7 March, the pupils will be holding a
two-day ‘big clean’ event, including litter picking in St Michael’s
Church grounds.
A wide range of community groups and local volunteers have
signed up to take part in a Stanwix Big Tidy Up event, starting
next Monday (7 March).
Local school children, students, sports groups, church
volunteers and community groups have all pledged their support.
Local residents are also being asked to lend a hand by taking part
in a community litter-pick. This will be held on Saturday, 12
March, between 10am and 3pm.
Anyone that wants to take part, should meet at Stanwix Community
Association Hut, Church Street, Stanwix at 10am.
St Michael’s Parish Hall will also be open from 12noon to 3pm,
for refreshments.
All equipment will be provided by the City Council. Anyone
interested in taking part, should contact 01228 618556 or 01228
817200 for more information.
Between Monday, 7 March and Saturday, 12 March, Carlisle City
Council and partners, are planning a comprehensive clean-up of the
Stanwix area and are asking the local community to lend a hand.

the week-long Tidy Up:

grounds and have also took part in a poster competition promoting
the Big Tidy Up week

in the Woods!’ litter picking event on Wednesday, 9 March at
10am).
- On Monday, 7 March between 8am and 10am, students/residents

improvements to be made. Students will be able to park for free on
this day only on the University Campus.

Tidy Up week: additional road sweeping; litter picking; removing
fly posters; removing graffiti; cleaning gullies; shrub bed
