Menopause Matters
Afternoon of Advice
(Date of issue: Thursday, 17 March 2011)
A Healthy City event in support of local women experiencing the
effects of menopause will be held on Tuesday, 29 March at Tullie
House.
Menopause is an issue that affects all women at some point
during their lifetime and is often a topic that is not talked about
as it is deemed to be inappropriate.
In partnership with a variety of organisations and linking into
Carlisle Healthy City, an “Afternoon of Advice” has been organised
at Tullie House on Tuesday, 29 March 2011 between 12noon and
4.30pm.
Dr Heather Currie (Founder of Menopause matters and Associate
Specialist Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Dumfries and Galloway
Royal Infirmary) and Dr Jenny Lyons (Associate Specialist in
Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Carlisle) will be leading talks on
Menopause, alongside a variety of information and advice on
complementary therapies, health, fitness, skin and hair care.
Heather said:
"Menopause happens to every woman and yet is still associated
with a certain stigma and often treated without the importance that
it deserves. Every woman should have access to information and
support at this important time in their lives.”
Cllr Olwyn Luckley Chairman of the Healthy Communities Group,
Carlisle Partnership, said:
“Menopause is often regarded as a taboo subject and some
individuals don’t know where to go to for more information. A
Healthy City is about addressing local issues and making a
conscious effort to improve health. Many different organisations
have an impact on health at a variety of levels and this is an
example of organisations working together to initiate change and
address local feedback.”
The afternoon is open to anyone (including men, who may want to
increase their understanding or find out information to assist
their partner), but booking is advisable to secure your place.
