Talkin Tarn
Sign up to get dug in!
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 16 March 2011)
Local groups and members of the public are needed to help plant
3,000 trees in Talkin Tarn Country Park this Sunday (20 March). The
trees have been provided by the North Pennines AONB Partnership’s
‘Living North Pennines’ project.
Members of the public who want to get involved, are being
invited to get dug in between 10.30am and 3pm. Tools and equipment
will be provided but feel free to bring your own spade and
gloves.
Anyone that wants to get involved is asked to send an email or
phone call so that the enough equipment is provided. Contact Talkin
Tarn on 016977 3129 or email fionash@carlisle.gov.uk
Planting will take place between Saturday, 19 March and Friday,
1 April. Staff from Talkin Tarn have been contacting local groups
and schools who have already shown an interest in taking part, but
anyone involved in a group who may also want to lend a hand, is
urged to contact the country park.
Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Local Environment,
said:
“If possible, we’d like as many groups and individuals to lend a
hand. You can come for just a half hour or if you wish to stay all
day that’s up to you. All help will be very much appreciated.”
Proposals are also in place to plant more a further 8,500 trees
at Talkin Tarn Country Park later this year
Visitors to the park and the Friends of Talkin Tarn have been
asked their views on the new woodland scheme. This has resulted in
a positive response from visitors to the country park. The feedback
from the consultation will be used as part of a £30,000 application
to the Woodland Grant Scheme.
