Carlisle Mayor appointed

Carlisle City Councillor Jacquelyne Geddes has been appointed Carlisle’s first citizen for the Municipal year 2008/2009.

Councillor Geddes has taken on the Mayoral role after serving a year as Deputy Mayor to former Mayor, Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson. Sworn in at the Mayor Making Ceremony on Monday, 19 May in the City Council Chamber, the Conservative Member for Stanwix Urban recited the ancient Mayoral Oath giving her allegiance to the city and its citizens.

A long-standing member of the City Council, Councillor Geddes first became a City Council representative in 1993.

Councillor William Graham was sworn in as the Deputy Mayor and Councillor Mike Mitchelson was also confirmed as the Leader of the Council.
