Residents have until Wednesday 28 May to register for a postal vote for this June’s Upperby City Council Elections.

Electors who are unable to cast their vote on the day of the election (Thursday, 12 June) are being urged to contact Carlisle City Council’s Electoral Registration section before next week’s deadline or miss out on their chance to vote.

All new postal vote applications need to be with Carlisle City Council’s Electoral Registration section by 5pm on Wednesday, 28 May to meet the deadline. There are currently more than 500 electors who are eligible to vote by post.

Residents wanting to apply to vote by post can request application forms by telephoning 01228 817555 or 01228 817556 or by emailing elections@carlisle.gov.uk

The City Council Upperby Elections will be held on Thursday, 12 June 2008. Two seats will be contested therefore electors will have two votes each. (The Upperby election was delayed after one of the candidates died. This resulted in the poll being countermanded and the May 1st election for the Upperby ward was not able to go ahead as planned. A by-election will also be held on Thursday, 12 June, following the recent death of Upperby City Councillor June Martlew.)

The Election count will be held at the Civic Centre, the first ballot boxes are expected to arrive soon after the four polling stations: (St. Margaret Mary’s Social Club, the CDC building adjacent to Upperby School, St. John’s Ambulance Centre on Scalegate Road and Petteril Bank Community Centre) close at 10pm.
