Time running out to register for European and County
elections
(Date of issue: Thursday, 14 May 2009)
Residents have until next Tuesday (19 May) to register to vote
or apply for a postal vote for this June’s Cumbria County Council
and European elections.
Elections to the European Parliament and Cumbria County Council
are scheduled to take place on the same day – Thursday, 4 June,
2009.
Electors in the Carlisle City Council area who are unable to
cast their vote in person on polling day are being urged to contact
the Council’s Electoral Registration section before the deadline or
miss out on their chance to vote.
All new postal vote applications need to be with the Electoral
Registration section by 5pm on Tuesday, 19 May to meet the
deadline.
Electors wanting to apply to vote by post can request
application forms by telephoning 01228 817555 or 01228 817556, by
emailing elections@carlisle.gov.uk or calling in person at the
Civic Centre.
Eight Members of the European Parliament will be elected to
represent the North West Region using a system of proportional
representation.
All 84 Cumbria County Council seats are also up for election.
Every eligible elector will have one vote in each election.
