New BMX track opens
Belah youngsters benefit from new facility
(Date of issue: Monday, 24 May 2010)
A new BMX track is now up and running in Belah, Carlisle.
The track, behind Belah Community Centre, Briar Bank cost £6,000
to construct and has been funded by Cumbria County Cllr Alan
Toole’s County Council Small Projects Fund.
Similar to the BMX track in Harraby, the track has been
installed following requests from the local community. An open day
was held with local residents at Belah Community Centre prior to
work being commissioned.
The work has been project managed by Carlisle City Council and
was undertaken by local contractor KJS.
Now completed, the work started in late March this year.
The new facility replaces an old BMX track and as part of the
development, the contractor has increased the height of the turns
and jumps to make it more challenging (and fun) for riders. It is
now around 130 metres in length and is an oval shape.
The new track is aimed at children aged eight years and older.
It is freely accessible to all.
