Heysham Park spring bulb planting
Local children will be getting mucked in next Monday (19
November), to help Carlisle Bloom.
Sixteen year 1 and 2 pupils from Newtown Primary School will be
helping to plant spring flowering bulbs in Heysham Park next Monday
(19 November) at 10am. Carlisle City Council gardeners will be
lending a helpful hand.
More than 500 yellow and white daffodil bulbs will be planted as
part of the on-going restoration of the park. Around 140,000 bulbs
are already been planted by Carlisle City Council’s Green Spaces
team and next week’s ground-breaking work will mark the completion
of the bulb planting work.
The community project is part of Carlisle City Council’s
Greener, Safer and Cleaner campaign to improve the green spaces of
the city. Spring flowering bulbs herald the start of the flowering
season and are closely followed in May, when the city is decorated
in glorious colour when the summer bedding display starts. All the
floral displays help to promote Carlisle in Bloom.
There are lots of ways for local residents and businesses to
support Carlisle in Bloom: take part in community gardening
competitions, become a member of the Carlisle parks ‘Friends of’
groups or get involved in environmental work such as tree and bulb
planting or community clear-up campaigns. To find out more
telephone the City Council on 01228 618594.
