More than £8,000 raised for local charities
More than £8,000 was raised for local good causes at the 2007
Carlisle Fireshow.
An estimated 35,000 strong crowd attended the biggest and best
Fireshow in the North and made sure it was a sparkling success. The
event was the 21st Fireshow staged by Carlisle City Council and
followed a party theme. A 40-foot high purpose built birthday cake
formed the bonfire centrepiece and more than 2,000 spectacular
fireworks ensured that the event went with a ‘bang’.
The £8,135.17 collected on the night will be split between the
Rotary Club of Carlisle (South) and the Mayor's Charity Fund.
The presentation of the cheque to Rotary South will take place
next (Tuesday, 27 November) in the Civic Centre.
The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Mrs Elizabeth Mallinson said:
"The Fireshow never disappoints and this year’s event was no
exception. The weather was ideal and the spectacular array of
fireworks ensured that the evening was a great family night out to
be able to celebrate the 21st Birthday Party of the event.
"It’s one of our most popular community events
and it is great news that more than £8,000 has been raised for
local charities."
The Bitts Park spectacular was organised by Carlisle City
Council in conjunction with the Black Powder Monkeys. CFM Radio,
News & Star, Kingmoor Park, J Edgar & Son and Story all
sponsored the event. Support was also received from Browns Haulage,
BSW Timber, Carlisle Scaffolding, Crown Bevcan and Edmundsons
Electricals.
