Air dome tennis opens for business

Bitts Park’s new air dome covered tennis courts is now up and running.

The Carlisle air dome provides the opportunity for indoor tennis to be staged over the winter months and covers two of four new floodlit hardcourts that opened last New Year (replacing flood-damaged grass courts).

Additional security measures have been put in place to protect the structure, including CCTV that is linked in direct to the Civic Centre’s CCTV Control Centre.

Carlisle Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and Infrastructure, said:

"The new courts and air dome enhance the tennis provision and provide an opportunity for coaching and development of young people. We also hope that local residents take up the chance to sample the new facility and get active over the winter months."

The courts are managed by Carlisle Leisure Limited on Carlisle City Council’s behalf and can be booked by telephoning 01228 625543. An introductory offer of £10 peak and £8 off peak will be in place until Wednesday, 31 December 2008.
