Nearly £6,000 raised for local charities
(Date of issue: Thursday, 20 November 2008)
Nearly £6,000 was raised for local good causes at the 2008
Carlisle Fireshow.
A large crowd attended the biggest and best Fireshow in the
North and made sure it was a sparkling success. The event was the
22nd Fireshow staged by Carlisle City Council and followed a
‘Wheels on Fire’ theme.
The £5,892.76 collected on the night will be split between the
Rotary Club of Carlisle (South) and the Mayor's Charity Fund.
The presentation of the cheque to Rotary South will take place
next Tuesday (25 November) in the Civic Centre.
The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Mrs Jacquelyne Geddes, said:
"The Fireshow never disappoints and this year’s
event was no exception. The weather was ideal and the spectacular
array of fireworks ensured that the evening was a great family
night out.
"It’s one of our most popular community events
and it is great news that just under £6,000 has been raised for
local charities."
The Bitts Park spectacular was organised by Carlisle City
Council in conjunction with the Black Powder Monkeys. Cumbria Fire
& Rescue Service, CFM Radio, News & Star and Story
Construction sponsored the event. Support was also received from
Brampton Pallets, Browns Haulage, BSW Timber, Carlisle Scaffolding,
Colophon, Crown Bevcan, Edmundsons Electricals and Wallace
Oils.
