More than £6,000 raised for local charities
(Date of issue: Thursday, 19 November 2009)
More than £6,000 was raised for local good causes at the 2009
Carlisle Fireshow (Saturday, 7 November).
A large crowd attended the biggest and best Fireshow in the
North and made sure it was a sparkling success. The event was the
23rd Fireshow staged by Carlisle City Council and followed a ‘Love
Carlisle’ theme.
The £6,142.44 collected on the night will be split between the
Rotary Club of Carlisle (South) and the Mayor's Charity Fund.
The presentation of the cheque to Rotary South will take place
in the Civic Centre next Monday (23, November) at 11am.
The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr William Graham, said:
"The Fireshow never disappoints and this year’s
event was no exception. The weather was not ideal but that didn’t
dampen the spirit of the event. The spectacular array of fireworks
ensured that the evening was a great family night out.
"It’s one of our most popular community events
and it is great news that more than£6,000 has been raised for local
charities."
The Bitts Park spectacular was organised by Carlisle City
Council in conjunction with the Black Powder Monkeys. Carlisle
Leisure Limited, Carlisle Renaissance and Cumbria Fire & Rescue
Service sponsored the event. Support was also received from
Alexander Sawmills, Brampton Pallets, Brown’s Haulage, BSW Timber,
Carlisle Scaffolding, Cumbria Waste Pallets, Crown Bevcan,
Edmundson’s Electricals, G J Campbell, Premier Papers, Stobart’s,
Story Construction and Wallace Oils.
