Homecoming Parade
(Date of issue: Monday, 29 November 2010)
Carlisle’s Mayor, Cllr Mary Styth is inviting residents to
support the homecoming parade by the 1st Battalion, The
Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment on Friday, 3 December 2010.
The Mayor said: “This city is very proud of
its long-standing link with the regiment. Many of the troops, who
will be on parade, are from Carlisle and Cumbria and I am delighted
that we have this opportunity to celebrate their home-coming.
Please turn out to join me in showing our appreciation for our
troops.”
The parade of more than 100 soldiers will
march along Castle Street arriving outside the Crown and Mitre
hotel where the Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Mary Styth and the
Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Lieutenant
Colonel Frazer Lawrence, will take the salute. The parade will then
continue to the Civic Centre along Scotch Street and
Rickergate.
To mark the end of battalion’s tour of duty in
Afghanistan, The Mayor and her consort, civic representatives,
local dignitaries and soldiers will attend a Service of
Thanksgiving at Carlisle Cathedral. The Mayor will also host a
