Look forward to a colourful Spring in Carlisle’s Parks
(Date of issue: Thursday, 11 November 2010)
As nights draw in, Carlisle City Council and the various
‘Friends Groups’ associated with the city’s parks and green spaces
have been working together to prepare a colourful Spring.
As part of this, the Friends of Hammond’s Pond is also holding a
mass bulb planting event this Saturday (13 November), between 10am
and 12noon. Everyone is invited to come along and plant some spring
colour for 2011. Meet at the Hammond’s Pond café where gloves and
equipment will be provided.
Carlisle City Council’s Neighbourhoods and Green Spaces Team has
also be adding to the colourful spring, by planting around 50,000
naturalising daffodil and crocus bulbs across the city’s parks and
green spaces and another 30,000 bulbs, including many tulips, in
the city’s flowerbeds.
Last month, the Friends of Melbourne Park and local volunteers
planted 1,000 mixed daffodils and Newlaithes Primary School joined
the Friends of Chance’s Park and planted 5,000 crocus bulbs.
Anyone wanting to know more about the bulb plantings or about
the various Friends Groups that contribute to the management of
Carlisle’s parks and green spaces, please telephone Carlisle City
Council on 01228 618594.
