Colourful Carlisle
Look forward to a colourful Spring in Carlisle’s Parks
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 13 October 2010)
As nights draw in, Carlisle City Council and the various
‘Friends Groups’ associated with the city’s parks and green spaces
are working together to prepare a colourful Spring.
Local residents are invited to take part in a mass bulb planting
this Saturday (16 October) with the Friends of Melbourne Park,
planting 1,000 mixed daffodils between 10am and 12noon to splash
spring yellows across the grassy areas adjacent to Walkmill
Crescent (near the Lakeland Gate). Everyone is welcome. Meet at the
site at 10am where gloves and equipment will be provided for those
taking part.
Newlaithes Primary School will be joining the Friends of
Chance’s Park next Tuesday (19 October), between 10am and 12noon,
to plant 5,000 crocus bulbs, some donated by the Friends Group,
which will be amongst the first flowers to emerge in the city next
spring.
The Friends of Hammond’s Pond is also holding a mass bulb
planting event on Saturday, 13 November, between 10am and 12noon.
Again, everyone is invited to come along and plant some spring
colour for 2011. Meet at the Hammond’s Pond café where gloves and
equipment will be provided.
In the next few weeks, Carlisle City Council’s Neighbourhoods
and Green Spaces Team will be adding to the colourful spring by
planting around 50,000 naturalising daffodil and crocus bulbs
across the city’s parks and green spaces and another 30,000 bulbs,
including many tulips, in the city’s flowerbeds.
Anyone wanting to know more about the bulb plantings or about
the various Friends Groups that contribute to the management of
Carlisle’s parks and green spaces, should please telephone Carlisle
City Council on 01228 618594.
