Carlisle’s Women’s Focus Group
60 minute makeover - make-up, nails and clothes!
(Date of issue: Monday, 17 October 2011)
The Carlisle’s Women’s Focus Group, which is made up of fifteen
agencies who work with homeless and vulnerable woman, hosted a 60
minute make-over event on Friday (14 October), at Greystone Road
Community Centre, which was a resounding success.
The afternoon was an opportunity for homeless and vulnerable
women to get together, have a bit of fun and have a chance to
relax. The ‘60 minute makeover’ was been organised by Carlisle City
Council with the HALO Project, Riverside, Impact Housing, CASS,
Barnardos and ADSolutions.
Carlisle College where be on hand to do make-up and hair, and
local nail technicians gave their time for free to offer nail
treatments and hand massages. Clothes where been kindly donated by
staff from all of the agencies involved, so that the ladies could
have a clothes make over too!
Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and Housing,
said:
“The support and reassurance that the women can get from meeting
each other in such a positive environment can have a very positive
effect. The event brought all the agencies from Carlisle’s Women’s
Focus Group together and hopefully we will develop similar projects
again in the future.”
The Carlisle’s Women’s Focus Group is made up of local agencies
who work with homeless and vulnerable women. The group has been
meeting for over two years and have hosted other events and
projects to benefit and support vulnerable women. This included
celebrating International Women’s Day in March, which saw 80 local
women take part in a pancake and pamper party.
