Fireshow 2011

Rings of Fire – Olympic 2012 theme

(Date of issue: Monday, 10 October 2011)

This year’s Carlisle City Council Fireshow is set to be another sparkling spectacular not to be missed.

The community event will be based on an ‘Olympics 2012’ theme, in celebration of Carlisle being chosen as one of the host cities for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Route next June.

An evening celebration will be held on Wednesday, 20 June 2012 to mark the Olympic Flame stopping off in the city as part of its journey around the UK.

The Carlisle Fireshow will be staged in Bitts Park and will take place on Saturday, 5 November. It will be the 25th Fireshow event staged by Carlisle City Council.

A giant 40-foot bonfire will be centre stage at this year’s event. More than 2,000 spectacular fireworks will also make sure the event goes with a ‘bang’.

This year, the Carlisle City Council event will be delivered in partnership with cnevents and Carlisle Leisure Limited.

Pre-entertainment will start at 6.30pm and the bonfire lit at 7pm. The whole event is likely to last for around an hour.

Admission is free, although collections will be made for the Mayor’s Charity Fund and Rotary Club Carlisle (South).

More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the City Council event, organised in conjunction with cnevents, Carlisle Leisure Limited and Black Powder Monkeys. Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service is sponsoring the Fireshow event. Support is also received from Alexander Sawmills, Andersons Sawmill, Brampton Pallets, Broombys, Brown’s Haulage, BSW Timber, Carlisle Scaffolding, Cumbria Waste Recycling Ltd, Crown Bevcan, Cubby Construction, Edmundson’s Electricals, Jewson Building Merchants, McKnight Builders, Pirelli Ltd, Premier Papers, Stobart’s, Steadman & Son Ltd, Story Group, Top Notch Joinery and Wallace Oils.
