Belah Community Centre
£250,000 funding for local community resource
Plans to give one of Carlisle's community centres a much-needed
facelift were discussed today (Monday, 24 September) at a City
Council Executive committee.
Members of the Executive were given a progress update on plans
to redevelop Belah Community Centre using £250,000 funding from
Carlisle City Council and a £80,000 grant is being sought from
Carlisle Housing Association.
Works to improve the Belah building will include upgrading the
facilities to bring them into the 21st century and will replace an
ageing wooden extension with a permanent brick structure.
Progress is now underway and work will soon be sent out through
a tender process with work on site expected to start next March
(2008).
Portfolio holder for Community Engagement, Cllr Ray Knapton
said:
Community Centre's provide valuable support to
local communities. The work proposed for Belah's will have a major
impact on the facilities available to local residents.
Belah community centre has a nursery and is used by youth groups
and other organisations.
