Mayor congratulates blooming winners
School children, local businesses and a local church will be
congratulated on their blooming success tomorrow (Wednesday, 5
September).
Members of the Stanwix community who helped the area scoop a top
prize at yesterday's Cumbria In Bloom awards ceremony will be
formally congratulated by Carlisle's Mayor, Cllr Mrs Elizabeth
Mallinson when she makes a visit to see the grounds of St Michael's
Church, Stanwix at 12noon.
The city's First Citizen will meet up schoolchildren from
Stanwix school who helped plant hanging baskets and plant bedding
plants within the area, Margaret Davie from St Michael's Church and
a representative from Cumbria Park Hotel.
The Cumbria In Bloom judges, Bill Hoodless and Toni Magean,
visited Carlisle in July this and were particularly impressed by
the floral displays at the Cumbria Park Hotel, Stanwix School and
St Michael's Church. They also made positive comments about the
recycling schemes and projects undertaken in the Stanwix area and
also remarked on the lack of litter, dog fouling and graffiti seen
in the area.
Stanwix was the winner of the UCB Trophy for Best Urban
Community at the Cumbria In Bloom awards.
The Mayor, Cllr Mrs Elizabeth Mallinson, representing Carlisle
City Council, was presented with the various prizes at the awards
ceremony, held in Penrith Leisure Centre on Monday (3
September).
Carlisle areas and businesses Barras House, Dalston; Brampton;
Brampton Funeral Garden; Carlisle; Dalston village; Great Orton;
James Rennie School; Nags Head, Brampton; Petteril Bank Community
Garden; St Michael's School, Dalston and Wetheral also received
accolades.
