Concert celebrates young talent
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 10 September 2008)
Carlisle’s nationally talented young people will be taking part
in a spectacular of music and dance to raise money for local
charities.
The concert, at The
Sands Centre on Sunday 19 October, will feature Andrew
Johnston, who has been in the national spotlight following his
success on Britain’s Got Talent.
He will be joined by more than 150 young people from local
theatre and drama groups, who will provide a packed evening of song
and dance from popular musicals to chart music.
The programme includes performances from classical pianist
Alessandra Pompili and country and western singer Claire Hart as
well as Stanwix School Choir.
All the performers and the comperes, ITV Border’s Helen Pearson
and Rob McNulty, are supporting the concert to raise money for The
Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Jacquelyne Geddes’ chosen charity Carlisle
Mencap and other nominated charities. All the money raised from the
ticket sales will be given to these charities.
Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Jacquelyne Geddes said:
"This event is a celebration of the wealth of
talent which Carlisle has to offer. It includes performers such as
Alessandra and Claire who are establishing their careers but just
as important are those that are following their dreams by
performing in front a city audience. I truly expect that there will
be many more performers following in Andrew’s footsteps and who
will continue to put Carlisle on the national talent map."
Tickets, priced £10 (concessions £8) are available from The
Sands Centre Box Office on 01228 625222. The concert will start at
7pm.
