(Date of issue: Thursday, 25 September 2008)

Local residents who put their best foot forward as part of a charity dog walk around Hammond’s Pond, Carlisle this summer (Sunday, 27 July) have raised £720 for charity.

Starting and finishing at the café, the event organised by the Friends of Hammond’s and involved walking a 1.5-mile distance around the local beauty spot to helped raise funding for Cumbria Cerebral Palsy.

Tony Box will present the charity total to Douglas Baptie from Cumbria Cerebral Palsy next Wednesday (1 October), at 12.15pm, at Hammond’s Pond café.

Sally Ford from the Friends of Hammond’s Pond, said:

"This is the first time the sponsored walk was held in the park and it proved very popular with around 25 people – and their dogs! - taking part. It was a great day out for all concerned and we now hope to make the event a regular feature."

Douglas Baptie, Marketing Officer for Cumbria Cerebral Palsy, added:

"The sponsored walk has provided us with much needed funds. We’re very grateful to all those who arranged the event and all those who took the time to take part."
