Junior Hockey programme – places still available
(Date of issue: Monday, 7 September 2009)
Places are still available on Carlisle City Council’s junior
hockey programme.
Carlisle City Council has worked alongside the newly merged
Carlisle Hockey Club (formerly men’s and ladies clubs) to set up a
junior development section for them. The new sessions were
officially launched at The Sheepmount’s synthetic pitch in late
April and are open to under 14 year olds.
Coaching sessions have now started and are now being held each
Tuesday evening between 6pm and 7pm for school years 7, 8 and 9 and
on Wednesday evenings between 6pm and 7pm for schools years 3, 4, 5
and 6 (a minimum age of seven years old). They cost £1 per
session.
Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and
Infrastructure, said:
“The redevelopment work at The Sheepmount has
resulted in the athletics and football stadium becoming one of the
region’s premier sports facilities. The synthetic pitch plans has
helped it develop into a multi-sports venue providing an extensive
range of facilities.
“The new junior jockey programme has already
attracted a lot of interest. We want to encourage more people to
get involved in sport and use the excellent facilities on offer on
their doorstep.”
