Open invitation to local residents
(Date of issue: Tuesday, 1 September 2009)
Local residents are being invited to Carlisle Cemetery’s Annual
Babies’ Memorial Service this Saturday (5 September) at 3pm.
Held within the Carlisle Cemetery Chapel, Richardson Street, the
short service is not only open for parents who have recently lost a
baby or child but for anyone who has ever suffered a loss.
The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr William Graham and the Mayoress, Mrs
Joan Graham, will also be in attendance.
The annual remembrance event will be led by Reverend Heather
Carter (Chaplain at the Cumberland Infirmary) and will include
hymns, prayers and blessings. During the service, parents will be
asked to come forward and receive a carnation in memory of those
they have lost. These are then place on individual graves within
the Babies’ Memorial Garden.
A collection will also be taken, on the day, for the Cumberland
Infirmary’s Special Care Baby Unit. Contact Carlisle City Council
on 01228 625310 for further details.
