Fun in the Sun!
(Date of issue: Friday, 16 September 2011)
More than 750 youngsters attended free Fun in the Sun sessions
in Brampton, Longtown and Dalston this summer.
The “Fun in the Sun” outreach programme was held throughout
August and was co-ordinated by Carlisle City Council and Cumbria
Constabulary. It was run in conjunction with a number of other
local agencies such as Carlisle Youth Zone, Cumbria Fire &
Rescue Service, Riverside Housing and local businesses. The
programme also had the support of Carlisle Healthy City.
The main aim of the project was to engage with young people and
also reduce the number of anti-social behaviour incidents in rural
locations over the summer period. In 2010, between the period of 23
July and 31st August there were 132 incidents of anti-social
behaviour across the rural area of north Cumbria. In the same
period in 2011 incidents of anti-social behaviour fell by 22%.
Further analysis also shows that there was a 51% reduction in youth
related anti-social behaviour throughout the target period.
The activities were held throughout August, between 1pm and 4pm
at the following locations:
- Dalston, Recreational Ground – Mondays (except for Monday, 29
