Go4it!
(Date of issue: Friday, 16 September 2011)
A staggering 580 youngsters took part in Go4It sports schemes
this summer. Most events were fully subscribed and the overall
programme has been hailed a resounding success.
Carlisle City Council joined forces with CLL to provide a packed
programme for youngsters aged 16 years old and under.
A wide range of sports schemes, to suit all abilities, were held
during the summer period at different venues around the city.
Local Clubmark accredited sports clubs delivered the coaching,
with the aim of encouraging local youngsters to carry on with sport
after the holiday programme had finished.
Cllr Jacquelyne Geddes, Portfolio holder for Community
Engagement, said:
“Our joint programme with Carlisle Leisure Limited provided the
opportunity for youngsters to take part in sports ranging from
cricket to trampolining. The summer Go4It scheme has proven to be a
resounding success and has resulted in nearly 600 youngsters taking
part in a wide range of activities.”
Events included a Mini Games at The Sheepmount, which attracted
100 participants, and sports courses which included: tennis camps
at Bitts Park; Star: Track Athletics at The Sheepmount; Boxing at
Currock Villa Boxing Club; Squash at Carlisle Squash Club; Netball
at The Sands Centre; cricket at The Sheepmount, Astro Turf and
Rowing at Talkin Tarn.
