Look forward to a colourful Spring in Carlisle
(Date of issue: Thursday, 22 September 2011)
As nights draw in, Carlisle City Council and local community
groups are working together to prepare a colourful Spring.
Local residents are invited to take part in a mass bulb planting
next Tuesday (27 September) in Denton Holme, Carlisle. The event
will supported by the members of Denton Holme Community Association
Green Group, representatives from Denton Holme Community Centre,
school children from Robert Ferguson School, staff from Carlisle
City Council’s Neighbourhood and Green Spaces team and Denton Holme
City and County Councillor Hugh McDevitt.
They will be starting to plant around 4,000 mixed daffodils
between 10am and 12noon to splash spring yellows across the grassy
areas adjacent to the River Caldew, near to the Bousteads Grassing
depot on Rome Street.
Dobbies Garden World Carlisle have also kindly donated an
additional 600 bulbs.
Everyone is welcome at the community bulb planting. Meet at the
site at 10am where gloves and equipment will be provided for those
taking part.
In the next few weeks, Carlisle City Council’s Neighbourhoods
and Green Spaces Team will be adding to the colourful spring by
planting around 35,000 naturalising daffodil and crocus bulbs
across the city’s parks and green spaces and another 30,000 bulbs,
including many tulips, in the city’s flowerbeds.
Anyone wanting to know more about the bulb plantings should
please telephone Carlisle City Council on 01228 817471.
