The last City Council elections were held in 17 of the city’s 22
wards on Thursday, 3 May 2012
These wards were: Belah; Belle Vue; Botcherby; Brampton; Castle;
Currock; Dalston; Denton Holme; Great Corby & Geltsdale;
Harraby; Hayton; Morton; St Aidans; Stanwix Urban; Upperby;
Wetheral and Yewdale. There was a 33.9% overall turnout.
The composition of the Council after the 2012 election:
- Conservative 20 seats
- Labour 27 seats
- Liberal Democrats 2 seats
- Independent 2 seats
- Vacant 1 seat
