Election Results 2008
Carlisle City Council elections were held on
Thursday, 1 May 2008. Polling stations were open between
7am and 10pm. The election count was held at the Sands
Centre soon after the polls closed at
10pm.
City Council elections were held in 16 of the city's 22
wards: Belah, Belle Vue, Botcherby, Brampton, Castle,
Currock, Dalston, Denton Holme, Great Corby and Geltsdale, Harraby,
Hayton, Morton, St. Aidans, Stanwix Urban, Wetheral and
Yewdale.
The Carlisle City Council election in the Upperby ward has been
delayed until Thursday, 12 June.

Upperby)
Total number of requests for postal votes 9,236 (not
including Upperby)
Total of number of postal votes cast 6,932
( 75.1% of requests received)
Total number of polling stations 81 (not including
Upperby)
Returning Officer - Maggie Mooney (City Council Town Clerk and
Chief Executive)
There was a 38.1% overall turnout (25,425 votes cast).
