Equality Impact Screening

 Impact Yes/No?

 Positive impact?

 Negative impact?

Key decision

Age

Yes

School groups visit the allotments to continue to raise the profile of allotments amongst the young.

Play areas are designed for children at and under the age of 12.

Disability

Yes

Amending access gates to parks and open spaces to fit local needs of different degrees of mobility.

Step wise improvement in parks and open spaces has led to praise and more awards, such as the ‘Green Flag’.

New allotment sites will have access designed in.

Lack of budget for allotments make provision very difficult. There is also a risk of being accused ‘queue’ jumping.

Race

Yes

Allotments have a huge potential to foster good relations between different groups.

We have ‘no offer’ at the moment due to the lack of plots available.

Good relations can be undermined by entrenched attitudes held by some allotment plot holders.

Gender/ Transgender

Yes

Amending access gates to fit local needs of families, pushchair friendly.

More females and families are coming forward for allotments

Lack of toilet  and other basic facilities are a real barrier to use

Sexual orientation

Yes

Uptake of allotments is open to all.

Religion or belief

Yes

Separate policy on Muslim graves in the cemetery.

Health inequalities

Yes

Allotments provide space for growing of fresh, healthy food in areas where many houses have no garden space (Victorian terraces) and play areas provide healthy outdoor exercise for children and adults which can combat obesity and other lifestyle-related conditions.

Rurality

Yes

Advice on design and safety of play areas (ROSPA) for rural parishes.

Requests for allotments are signposted to appropriate parishes

Human rights

No
