Local Strategic Partnerships

Working at a local level and operating within local authority boundaries, these non-statutory, non-executive partnerships bring together different agencies to support each other and work effectively together on economic, community and environmental issues that matter to local people including crime, employment, education, health and housing. Partners may include:

  • Public sector organisations
  • Community organisations and local people
  • Voluntary organisations
  • Businesses
  • Local authority elected members

LSPs are collaborative partnerships, accountable to local people, in which each member is an equal partner. Any organisation can lead an LSP whilst local authorities play an important part as facilitator, mediator and accreditor. Elected council members also provide a vital link between local people and service providers. LSPs aim to deliver sustainable economic, social and physical regeneration, improved public services, promotion of equality and inclusion, and improvements to the quality of life for local citizens, particularly those from deprived areas and disadvantaged groups. In order to achieve this, partners are required to assess local needs, plan services, set targets and monitor delivery.
