Standards Committee

Changes to the complaints procedure

From 8 May 2008, the responsibility for considering complaints that a Councillor may have breached the Members Code of Conduct has moved to the Standards Committees of local councils.

What this means to you

If you want to complain that a Councillor or co-opted member of Carlisle City Council or a Councillor on any Town or Parish Council within the District of Carlisle has failed to comply with the Code of Conduct applicable to members of those Authorities, then you should make your complaint in writing to:

The Chairman of the Standards Committee/Standards Sub-Committee (initial assessment),

c/o John Egan, Monitoring Officer

Carlisle City Council

Civic Centre

Carlisle

Cumbria, CA3 8QG

stating the nature of the complaint and providing relevant evidence to substantiate your allegation.

A complaint form is available from the Monitoring Officer or below in the related link. If you first want to discuss your complaint with the Monitoring Officer, please contact John Egan at the address below.

Please note that the Standards Committee or one of its Sub-Committees can only deal with complaints about the alleged behaviour and conduct of a member. It will not deal with complaints about any of the Council’s departments or matters not covered by the Council’s Code of Conduct.
