Please note the following Dog Control Legislation

Under the provisions of the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT 1990. SECTIONS 149 AND 151 and the CONTROL OF DOGS ORDER 1992 (as amended), appointed officers have a duty to seize any dogs found in a public place or other land if they consider that dog to be a stray. For the purpose of this legislation any dog without a person in control of it will be deemed a stray.

The Council has adopted the policy that if possible on a first offence only dogs should be returned to their owner. Otherwise, dogs are to be taken to the Council’s appointed kennels for a maximum period of 8 days. During these 8 days the dog may be reclaimed subject to the payment of due charges.
