What we can do
When we receive a report that a vehicle is abandoned we try to
inspect the vehicle within 24 hours and investigate whether it has
been abandoned. We also check to see whether it has been stolen or
involved in an accident.
We take into consideration the following points:
- if the vehicle is taxed
- the condition of the vehicle
- current keeper details
- how long it has been there
- any other relevant information that is available
If the vehicle has been abandoned on a road, including private
roads and estates, the council will remove it within three days
(where possible). If the vehicle is on private land, the council
will serve a 15 day notice of removal on the owner or occupier. We
will only remove vehicles from private land if they can be picked
up without difficulty and the land owner does not object.
