Dog control and Dog Control Orders

Carlisle City Council has introduced Dog Control Orders to target the problems caused by dogs. These came into force on Monday 12 February 2007 and allow our enforcement officers to ensure dogs are kept under proper supervision.

Fixed penalties of up to £80 can be issued to dog owners who don't obey the law. It is an offence to

• allow Dog Fouling or fail to remove dog faeces;
• allow Stray/Roaming Dogs or have a dog off the lead within the Carlisle district (except in parks and open spaces);
• not put and keep a dog on a lead when directed to by a City Council enforcement officer.

The City Council is also involved in the enforcement of Dog Noise (Barking Dogs), however Dangerous Dogs are enforced by the Police (external link)
