Food Safety Regulations
Food Safety Law changed in January 2006 and existing law was, on
the whole, replaced by new law that applies across the European
Union.
It is important that businesses continue to recognise their
responsibilities under the food law to ensure that food and drink
produced by them is safe.
Risks associated with food businesses will vary depending upon,
for example, the size of a business, type of food being produced,
structural and hygiene conditions, in addition to the management of
food safety.
The main pieces of law covering food safety are as follows:
- Food Safety Act 1990
- Regulation (EC) No 178/2002
- General Food Regulations 2004
- Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 Hygiene of Foodstuffs
- Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 Hygiene Rules for Food of Animal
Origin
- Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005 Microbiological Criteria for
Foodstuffs
- Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006
