Fly Posting

Illegal poster on a lamp post

Fly posting is putting up unauthorised posters and stickers, usually adverts, in public places. The council is responsible for items attached to "the highway" - trees; bridges, lamp posts, road signs and other street furniture. If private property is involved (eg phone boxes or empty shops) then the council has no jurisdiction.

As well as removing fly posting, the enforcement team takes action against the people responsible. We have powers to prosecute both the people putting up the material and the businesses being advertised. The fines for fly posting are £80.

If you would like to report an instance of fly posting, please contact us.

Electronic forms

Electronic forms can be completed and submitted online, with no paper involved, which is not only our preferred method; it's kinder to the environment as well.
