Clinical and hazardous waste
Clinical waste
Clinical waste includes:
- blood or bodily fluids
- excretions
- drugs or other pharmaceutical products
- swabs or dressings
- syringes, needles or other sharp instruments
We collect clinical waste free of charge. We do not
collect sharps as part of this collection service.
If you need a clinical waste collection, contact your GP or
healthcare provider. They will supply you with sacks and arrange
the collection.
Hazardous waste
We do not collect hazardous waste.
Domestic wastes that may be hazardous include:
- asbestos
- pesticides
- fluorescent tubes
- oils
- some paints
- some household and car batteries
You can take certain hazardous wastes to a Household Waste Recycling Centre where an
attendant will help you. You should check first with Cumbria County Council
(external link) to make sure they can accept the waste.
Hazardous trade waste needs to be disposed of with a private
contractor. For more information about handling hazardous waste
contact The
Environment Agency (external link).
