Household disposal sites
As well as Carlisle City Council's Recycling Sites there are two
Household Waste Recycling Sites owned by Cumbria Council Council
and operated by Shanks Waste Solutions. One of these is in Carlisle
(Bousteads Grassing), the other is in
Brampton (Townfoot Industrial Estate).

Materials that are accepted at these sites include:
- Scrap metal
- Wood
- Garden
- Fridges and other white goods
- Oil
- Rubble
- Cast iron
- Soil
- Cans and tins
- Newspaper & magazines
- Cardboard
- Glass (clear, brown, green)
- Plastic
- Clothing
- Small household batteries
- Car batteries
- TVs and monitors
- Fluorescent tubes
- General household waste
- Asbestos (please telephone in
advance to confirm that there is enough space for your asbestos
waste)
- Chemicals ie weedkiller (this must be reported to an attendant
when brought on site)
Trade waste is not accepted at Bousteads Grassing or
Brampton HWRC.
If you wish to visit either site using a
- Van of any size
- Utility vehicle (ie. pickup/flatbed/crew cab)
- Twin axle trailer up to 3 meters long

The Environment

handling and disposal of hazardous and special waste and will
provide information and advice.
