NoWcard Bus Pass - how to apply

The Concessionary Fares Scheme allows free bus travel in England on services provided by local bus operators between 9:30 and 23:00 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. 
 
Residents of Carlisle City Council who have a bus pass issued by Carlisle City Council can also travel free before 9:30 and after 23:00 providing the bus is boarded within the City Council area.
 
Bus Passes are available to residents of the Carlisle City Council area who meet at least one of the following criteria:
  1. Is aged 60 years or over
  2. Is blind or partially sighted to such an extent that s/he has difficulty estimating the size and speed of movement of vehicles
  3. Is profoundly or severely deaf
  4. Is without speech
  5. Has a disability, or sustained an injury which, in the long term, makes it very difficult or impossible for him/her to walk
  6. Is without the use of both arms
  7. Has a learning disability
  8. Has been or would be refused a driving licence under Part III of the Road Traffic Act 1988 pursuant to Section 92 of the Act (physical fitness)

To apply for a Bus Pass you will need to visit the Customer Contact Centre on the ground floor of the Civic Centre bringing with you evidence of eligibility. You will need two forms of identification, one to show proof of age or disability and one to confirm your address.

Examples of evidence include:

  • A letter from the Benefits Agency confirming receipt of a retirement pension.
  • Disability Living Allowance (higher rate) payment book .
  • Letter from the Benefit Agency confirming that you receive DLA (higher rate).
  • Driving licence.
  • Passport.

Bus Passes are issued during the following times:

  • Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm
  • Friday 9.00 am to 4.00pm

If you lose your bus pass you can request a replacement from us. There is a £5 charge for this service.
