Public transport
Cumbria County Council has various public
transport objectives as part of its Local Transport Plan
2001-2006:
- To provide a safe and secure public
transport system for all users
- To provide access to employment
opportunities
- To provide choice and
quality
- To meet all the physical needs of the
travelling public
- To provide an integrated timetable and
fares
system
The Council sets out to achieve these objectives
by close working with public transport operators and the other
bodies responsible for public transport provision, such as the
Traffic Commissioners.
Our Public Transport Team provides a
comprehensive information service on all the County's bus, coach,
train and ferry operators. In partnership with the public transport
operators we aim to secure an integrated public transport network
that meets the needs of the community and visitors. The County
Council provides financial support on many bus services
throughout Cumbria.
School Transport (Special Education
Needs)
If your child attends their local school and it
is within walking distance to your home they will not receive
transport to school expect under exceptional circumstances at the
discretion of the transport manager. If your child is placed in a
special school or a school with specialist facilities for your
child’s particular special educational need by the Local Education
Authority then you will be provided with home to school
transport.
