Bring empty homes back into use
Carlisle City Council is currently looking to assist empty
property owners in returning their empty properties back into
use.
Although we are unable to offer financial assistance at this
time, we may be able to offer you valuable advice through the
services of the Empty Property Officer. The Empty Property Officer
can advise you about renovating your property, applying for
planning and building control consents, claiming reduced VAT for
renovation works, letting or selling your property.
As part of the Councils current Housing Strategy, the Council in
partnership with a local housing association is working to
establish a range of financial products and incentives for empty
property owners. The products that could be available through any
future scheme may include a range of financial products and
incentives through a Private Sector Leasing Scheme. This may
include a range of loans and grants for empty property owners. A
Private Sector Leasing Scheme involves the association managing the
property and the tenancy for a set period of time.
As part of this process we are carrying out research to
establish empty property owner’s views and identify interest in any
proposed scheme. Attached below is questionnaire for your
completion, please return to Housing@carlisle.gov.uk
The information provided to us through this process is of real
value to the Councils Housing Strategy and the valuable work we
carry out to return empty properties back into use. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact on 01228 817127 or
e-mail Housing@carlisle.gov.uk
