Tenants Renting from a Private Landlord
Know your rights
The economic downturn has affected the housing and employment
markets and led to new tenants seeking accommodation in the private
rented sector, alongside students and other young people.
With the shortage of social housing, tenants may welcome the option
of looking for accommodation in this sector, but often they are
ignorant of their rights and responsibilities.
To help support these
tenants, Carlisle City Council is issuing advice supported by
LACORS. It includes a 10-point checklist advising tenants on how to
avoid the pitfalls of private renting. See Thinking about renting
from a private landlord.
Tenants may also wish to consider
letting from an 'Accredited
Landlord' when looking for a property.
