Friends of Groups
The City of Carlisle is very lucky to have a great number of
parks and open spaces. Many of which have 'Friends of Groups'
representing them. These groups work in partnership with the
Neighbourhoods & Green Spaces team to ensure that our green
spaces are well used and well maintained.
What is a Friends of Group?
A 'Friends of Group' is usually made up of enthusiastic park
users who want to have an involvemnt in the running of thier local
park. Through working in partnership with Carlisle City Council
they can advise on site issues, get involved with project ideas and
take part in fund raising, as well as getting their hands dirty
with practical conservation based activities. These groups are an
invaluable link between the Carlisle City Council and the community
as well as acting as ambassadors for the park.
The aims of a 'Friends of Group' is usually to support a green
space through working in partnership with the Neighbourhoods &
Green Spaces Team to achieve the following:
- To work in partnership with Carlisle City Council and other
agencies for the overall benefit of the park.
- To raise awareness and promote the park as a quality green
space in Carlisle.
- To ensure that a green space is better used by the local
community.
- To provide information to the local community about a green
space.
- To look at strategies for improved maintenance of a particular
green space.
- To help to make a green space safer.
- To organise fun days, events or activities for the local
community.
- To carry out practical tasks with us to improve/maintain a
green space.
- To represent the interests of the community in planning &
implementing projects & applying for external funding to fulfil
the groups objectives.
