Dalton, the City's Engineer, in the early 1930's from a design
by Prentice Mawson. Eden Bridge Gardens
are laid out with planted borders, shrubberies and ornamental
ponds, with numerous sitting places for quiet contemplation
overlooking the City of Carlisle and the River Eden.
Park Opening Times: Eden Bridge Gardens
are open all day, every day, all year round.
The Restoration of The Eden Bridge Gardens

Over recent years the gardens had become overgrown, appearing
neglected and run down, becoming a venue for anti social
behaviour and crime.
With funding from Carlisle City Council and The Heritage Lottery
Fund, Eden Bridge Gardens under went a major restoration
in 2009.

Nine sets of stone steps within the gardens were re-laid,
re-pointed and levelled, so too were large areas of the crazy
paving.
The herbaceous borders were cut back and replanted as
appropriate. Many of the trees surrounding the garden have
been cut back to open up sight lines within the gardens, improving
safety, and giving a more welcoming feel.
The two rest houses have undergone minor conversion.
One into a mini resource centre for local schools and
community groups, and the other into an interpretation centre
dedicated to the history of Carlisle and the Eden Bridge
Gardens.
The restoration work was completed by the end of May 2009,
with the grand re-opening of the gardens kicking off Love Parks
Week 2009.

In keeping with the spirit of the restoration, and in
recognition of the location, it is fitting to revert to the
original name of The Eden Bridge Gardens.
