Boathouse
Tea Rooms and Gift Shop.
Based in tranquil
surroundings, the tea room offers
beautiful views from the balcony out across the water, or enjoy the
view from a cosy fireside.
Renowned for its good Fair Trade food and welcoming staff, hot
and cold food is served seven days a week and bookings are
available for private functions. A takeaway service is also
available on busy days.
Try our delicious English Lakes ice cream in a variety of mouth
watering flavours. Open Daily 10.30am-4.00pm (summer)
and Thurs - Sun 10.30am - 4pm (winter) take-away service
only on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays during winter
months.
Children's play area beside tearoom suitable for under 12's.
Log
Cabin/Meeting Room
Situated in the woods, the log cabin
is available to hire for events from meetings and training courses
to kids parties and weddings.
It is fully accessible, has parking and is well equipped with
tables and chairs, toilets and a small kitchen area as well as a
hall that can seat up to thirty people.
The log cabin is equipped with a presentation screen, data
projector and dry wipe board. Catering can also be provide from the
tearoom. Cost £25/half day £50/full day.
Fishing
Day permits can be purchased on arrival. The
closed season is from 15th March to 15th June. There
is also no fishing on Rowing regatta day usually 1st Saturday in
July. You will also need an Environment Agency rod licence before
you fish, unless you are under twelve years of age. These can
be purchased on line from the Environment Agency's web site or from
a post office. (nearest to here is in Brampton)
Fishing at the Tarn costs £2/day/adult £1/day/child. The
fishing at the Tarn is for Pike and Perch. All fish must be
returned to the Tarn and no keep nets are allowed. Please be aware
that you do need experience in Pike fishing to come here and must
be properly equipped to de-hook Pike safely and have the
knowledge to catch and return Pike dealing correctly with this
fish that does not catch and release well. We recommend you read
the information leaflets on the following website before visiting
the Tarn.
Rowing boats can also be hired for fishing by prior
arrangement.
Toilets
The public toilets are open 7 days/week and are located up the
ramp behind the tearoom. On weekdays they are generally open 8am -
5pm and on weekends they are generally open 10am - 5pm. The times
are based on staff presence on site which can vary. During the
winter the toilets will close at 4pm when it gets dark.
Rowing Boat Hire
Our rowing boats are for hire for a paddle around the Tarn at
the weekends and during Cumbrian school holidays from Easter to
October half term, weather permitting. Cost £4.50/half hour. Boats
can be hired out for special events by prior arrangement.
Private Launch Of Boats
Private boats can be launched at the Tarn between 8am - 5pm on
purchase of a day boat launch permit. These can be purchased on the
day from the site office or tearoom and cost £5.85/boat/day.
Discounts are available for large groups. Annual permits also
available.
Before any boats can be launched at the Tarn, you must sign
our conditions
of launching.
The RYA produce an information sheet offering advice for
people carrying out water sports (blue green algae). The
Tarn does occasionally suffer from blue green algae. For an up to
date report please call the site office.
Group Campsite
The small camping field is great for organised groups wanting a
more rustic feel to their camping. Catering can also be
provided from the tearoom. Groups must be pre-booked and have
their own liability insurance in place. Cost £2/person/night.
Alex Boathouse Exhibition Area
This refurbished Alex
Boathouse is available for hire as a venue for local
crafts people to exhibit throughout the year. Exhibitors must
have public liability insurance. Please contact Talkin Tarn for
