Bitts Park tennis courts will re-open to the public from Saturday 30 April.
The outdoor courts were engulfed by flood water in December 2015 and following an extensive clear-up by GLL and Carlisle City Council staff, the leisure facilities will be up and running in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend, using a temporary portacabin as an alternative to the kiosk building which needs extensive repairs.
The four hardcourts will be available Monday – Friday: 4pm – 8pm, Saturday – Sunday: 10am – 4pm (on Bank Holiday Monday the courts will be open from 11am). Court hire will be £5 per hour and equipment is available to hire.
Courts can only be booked from the portacabin or by phone on 07873 860322. Only cash transactions are available at the site.
To coincide with the visit of the Davis Cup to The Sands Centre on Friday 29 April, a full size tennis court and mini tennis courts will be set up in the auditorium. A mini red tennis competition will also be organised, as well as a tennis exhibition. Tennis fans can also get their picture taken with the trophy and win prizes by taking part in various tennis challenges. The event will take part between 1pm and 6pm.
The Davis Cup is embarking on a memorable journey and will visit over 90 venues across the nation including tennis clubs, major events, parks, communities, leisure centres, town halls and shopping centres.
