An open-air performance of Canterbury Tales will be held at Talkin Tarn on Thursday 7 July.

The Pantaloons, a touring theatre company, will perform a family friendly adaptation of Geoffrey Chaucer’s stories told in modern English within the grounds of the Country Park.

Gates will open at 6pm for a 7pm start. Tickets cost £10 adult, £5 child or £25 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) and £8 for concessions. Tickets are available from the Carlisle Tourist Information Centre, from Talkin Tarn tearoom, or online at www.thepantaloons.co.uk

A bar will also be available serving both wine and beer and a selection of local ales. Please bring along seating as the event will be held on the hard standing on the waterfront. The tearoom kiosk will be open serving a selection of tasty treats.

A special meal option is available for spectators wanting to get a bite before the event. In addition to delicious homemade food, the booking also gives exclusive access the Talkin Tarn tearoom balcony which will provide an excellent viewing area for the performance. Tickets for the performance are required in addition to the cost of the set-price meal. The two course meal costs £21 per person and will be served at 6pm. The menu is as follows:

Main Courses

  • The Franklin's Braised Pork in a Apples and Cider sauce
  • Harry Bailly's Cod, spinach and Cheddar Fishcakes served with a parsley sauce
  • The Parson's Champagne, Baby Oyster Mushroom and Rocket Risotto

All the above served with crushed new potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Desserts

  • The cook’s own vanilla blancmange with raspberry coulis
  • St Thomas Beckett's Canterbury Apple Pie served with custard
  • The Wife of Bath's Red Berry Bread Pudding served with custard

Tea and Coffee served with a pilgrim shortbread biscuit.
