Carlisle Skills & Economy Summit

An event aimed at highlighting the challenges and opportunities from £90billion investment within the Nuclear Sector in Cumbria will be held in Carlisle on Thursday 28 January.

The Carlisle Skills and Economy Summit has been organised by the Carlisle Economic Partnership and is open to any businesses or organisations who would like to attend. It will be held at the new Carlisle College of Art building on Strand Road, Carlisle.

Government Minister of State for Skills, Nick Boles MP will also be attending the event.

The key speakers will explain the potential impacts and opportunities of the investment for Carlisle and Cumbria. It will also outline the future skills requirements to meet the projected demand. Presentations will be followed by a panel discussion to begin the debate on how Carlisle will respond.

Organised to coincide with the Carlisle Skills Fair, planned at The Sands Centre on the same day, the key speakers for the morning summit are: Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr Colin Glover; Moira Tattersall; Principal Carlisle College, Tim Allan; York Consulting; Ken McEwan; Centre of Nuclear Excellence; Sandra Booth; University of Cumbria; and Graham Haywood; Cumbria LEP.

A questions/panel discussion will also be held at the end of the event, chaired by BBC Radio Cumbria’s Mike Zeller.
